How to Fix Quicken Error CC-503 (Incorrect Bank Credentials)

CC-503 is a credentials error — the bank received a sign-in from Quicken and refused it, usually because the password, security answers, or MFA settings changed.

Why CC-503 Happens

  • Password changed on the bank website but not in Quicken
  • New security questions or multi-factor prompts added
  • Account locked after repeated failed sign-in attempts
  • Bank migrated to a new online banking platform
  • Saved Password Vault entry is stale or corrupted
1

Sign in on the bank website first

Open your bank in a browser and sign in manually. Clear any pending alerts, security questions, or terms you have to accept — Quicken cannot answer those prompts for you.

2

Update the credentials in Quicken

Tools → Password Vault → Add or Edit Password (Windows) or Quicken → Preferences → Connected Services (Mac). Retype the password rather than pasting it, and remove any trailing spaces.

3

Reset the account connection

Tools → Account List → Edit → Online Services → Reset Account. This resends fresh credentials and rebuilds the aggregator handshake.

4

Wait out a bank lockout

If the bank locked the account after repeated retries, most institutions release the lock in 15–60 minutes. Retrying immediately restarts the lockout timer.

5

Deactivate and reconnect

Back up first, then deactivate every account at that bank, restart Quicken, and add the bank again choosing Link to existing account for each register.

Stop Quicken From Re-Sending the Old Password

If CC-503 returns instantly after a fix, an old entry in the Password Vault is still being sent. Delete the vault entry for that institution entirely, close Quicken, reopen it, and re-enter the password when prompted during One Step Update.

Still Locked Out of Your Bank?

A technician can clear the stale vault entry, confirm the bank's current sign-in requirements, and restore downloads without duplicating transactions.
