Download & Install

Quicken download and install guide

A clean install on Windows or Mac, from sign-in to activation to opening your existing data file — plus fixes for the errors that stop it.

The download button takes you to Quicken Inc.'s official site — sign in with your Quicken ID to get the installer for your subscription. We never host or redistribute Quicken installers.

Only download Quicken from Quicken Inc.'s own website or the official app stores. Installers offered on third-party download portals are frequently repackaged and are the most common source of "Quicken won't activate" reports we take.

Install Quicken in five steps

1

Confirm your system meets the requirements

Check your Windows or macOS version and free disk space before downloading. Installing on an unsupported OS is the most common cause of a first-launch crash.

2

Sign in with your Quicken ID

Downloads are tied to the Quicken ID that owns the subscription. If you cannot sign in, reset the password before starting the install rather than part-way through it.

3

Download the installer for your platform

Use the Windows or Mac installer that matches your subscription tier. Do not install an older archived build over a current subscription — the release will not activate.

4

Close everything and run the installer

Quit Quicken and any backup or sync utility that touches your data folder. On Windows, right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.

5

Activate and open your data file

Sign in when prompted to activate the subscription, then open your existing data file or restore a backup. Quicken may convert the file format — keep the backup untouched until you confirm everything opens.

Common install and activation errors

Installer stops or rolls back part-way

Antivirus or an in-use data folder is blocking the write. Disable real-time scanning for the install, close any cloud-sync client, and run the installer as administrator.

Quicken installs but won't activate

Activation checks the subscription against your Quicken ID. Confirm you are signing in with the ID that purchased the subscription, and that it has not expired.

Install finished but Quicken won't open

Usually a startup or profile issue rather than a bad install. Our Windows 11 startup guide walks through the fixes in order.

Data file won't open after reinstalling

Restore your most recent backup rather than forcing the original file open, then run File → File Operations → Validate & Repair on the restored copy.
