Quicken system requirements and pre-install checklist
Check your machine before you download — most install and activation failures are caused by one of the items below.
Windows

- 1.5 GB free, plus room for backups

Before you install
- Sign in to your Quicken ID before downloading so activation matches your subscription.
- Back up your existing data file and copy it somewhere outside the Quicken folder.
- Close Quicken on every other computer syncing the same cloud file.
- Temporarily allow the installer through antivirus or endpoint protection.
- Install as an administrator on Windows, or approve the security prompt on Mac.
- Open Quicken once before restoring your backup, so the new version registers first.
Connection requirements
Quicken needs an active internet connection for activation, bank downloads and mobile sync. Corporate proxies, VPNs and strict firewall rules commonly block the activation server and produce install errors that look like a bad download.
