How to Fix Quicken Error CC-506 (Bank Discontinued the Connection)
CC-506 appears when the financial institution profile Quicken was using has been deactivated, renamed, or replaced — often after a bank merger or a platform change.
Why CC-506 Happens
- Bank merged with or was acquired by another institution
- Institution renamed its Quicken connection profile
- Bank dropped Express Web Connect support
- Old connection method retired by the aggregator
- Quicken is running an outdated financial institution list
Update Quicken and refresh the institution list
Help → Check for Updates and install anything pending. Quicken refreshes the branding and institution list at launch, which alone clears many CC-506 cases.
Find the bank's current profile name
Search the Add Account list for the bank. Merged institutions often appear under the acquiring bank's name, or with a suffix such as 'New' or a state abbreviation.
Deactivate the old connection
Back up your file, then Tools → Account List → Edit → Online Services → Deactivate on every account tied to the discontinued profile.
Reconnect using the new profile
Add Account → choose the current institution name → sign in → and for every account choose Link to existing account so your history and reconciliations stay intact.
Switch connection methods if offered
If the bank lists both Direct Connect and Express Web Connect, try Direct Connect. It is more stable and unaffected by website redesigns, though some banks charge a small monthly fee.
Keep Your History When the Bank Profile Changes
Deactivating does not delete transactions. The risk is at reconnect: choosing Add to Quicken instead of Link to existing account creates a duplicate register. If that already happened, do not delete transactions one by one — a technician can merge the registers cleanly.
Bank Connection Discontinued?
We reconnect merged and renamed institutions daily and can restore downloads without losing a single reconciled transaction.
