How to Fix Quicken Error OL-220-A (Bank Setup Failure)

Quicken Error OL-220-A appears when you try to add or activate an online account and Quicken can't complete the setup with your bank.

What Does OL-220-A Mean?

OL-220-A is a bank setup failure. Quicken reached the financial institution but the account activation didn't complete — usually because of a stale institution profile or an outdated Quicken release.

  • Outdated Quicken release
  • Stale financial institution profile
  • Bank changed its connection method
  • Duplicate or partially-activated account
1

Update Quicken

Go to Help → Check for Updates. Install any pending release and restart Quicken. Older builds often can't complete the OL-220-A handshake.

2

Refresh the Bank Profile

Open Tools → Financial Institution List, find your bank, and click Refresh. This pulls the latest connection profile from Quicken's servers.

3

Remove the Partially-Added Account

If the failed setup left a stub account in Quicken, delete it before retrying. Right-click the account → EditDelete Account. You can re-add it clean in the next step.

4

Re-Add the Account

Go to Add Account, search for your bank, and sign in. When Quicken asks whether the account is new or existing, choose Link to existing and match it to your Quicken register.

5

Try Express Web Connect+ (if offered)

Many banks now offer Express Web Connect+, which uses a modernized token flow and often clears OL-220-A on stubborn accounts. Choose it during setup if it appears in the dropdown.

Still Seeing OL-220-A?

Some OL-220-A cases need a profile correction on Quicken's side or a data-file repair. Our technicians handle both remotely, usually in under 30 minutes.
