How to Fix Quicken Error OL-292-A (Online Banking Setup Failure)

OL-292-A is a Direct Connect setup failure — Quicken reached the bank but could not complete the online banking profile exchange.

Why OL-292-A Happens

  • Direct Connect not enabled on the bank account
  • Incorrect Direct Connect PIN or customer ID
  • Damaged online banking setup inside the data file
  • TLS or certificate mismatch on the connection
  • Bank-side maintenance during the setup attempt
1

Confirm Direct Connect is enabled at the bank

Direct Connect usually requires enrolment by phone or through online banking settings, and the credentials often differ from your website login. Ask the bank for your Direct Connect customer ID and PIN.

2

Re-enter the Direct Connect credentials exactly

Customer IDs are frequently numeric-only and PINs are often separate from your web password. Type them manually and check for a leading zero the bank includes.

3

Deactivate every account at that bank

Back up, then deactivate all accounts for that institution — a single leftover active account keeps the broken setup record alive and reproduces OL-292-A.

4

Validate and repair the data file

File → File Operations → Validate & Repair with 'Validate file' ticked clears damaged online banking records that survive a deactivate.

5

Reconnect and link to existing accounts

Add the bank again, sign in with the Direct Connect credentials, and link each downloaded account to its existing register.

When to Try Express Web Connect Instead

If Direct Connect enrolment is delayed or the bank charges for it, most institutions also publish an Express Web Connect profile that uses your normal website login. It downloads less detail and no bill-pay, but it gets your transactions flowing while enrolment is processed.

Setup Still Failing?

A technician can confirm which connection method your bank actually supports, clear the damaged setup record, and complete the reconnect with you on the line.
