How to Fix Quicken Error OL-295-A (Account Setup Could Not Complete)
OL-295-A means Quicken started the account setup handshake with your bank and the exchange failed before the account list came back.
Why OL-295-A Happens
- Partial account setup left behind by an earlier attempt
- Bank returned an empty or malformed account list
- Stale branding files in the Quicken installation
- Security software intercepting the connection
- Institution temporarily under maintenance
Retry after 30 minutes
OL-295-A is often transient. Bank-side maintenance windows commonly run overnight, so a retry the next morning resolves a large share of cases before any other change.
Refresh the branding and profile files
Help → Check for Updates, then close and reopen Quicken. This pulls a fresh institution profile and clears cached setup data.
Remove the half-finished account
If the earlier attempt created an empty register, delete or deactivate it before retrying — Quicken will otherwise try to resume the broken setup.
Temporarily disable interception by security software
Antivirus HTTPS scanning and VPN filtering can break the certificate exchange. Turn them off for one setup attempt, then re-enable them.
Validate the file and retry the setup
File → File Operations → Validate & Repair, restart Quicken, then add the account again and link to your existing register.
Check the Institution Status First
Before repeating the setup, check whether your bank is listed as under review. Quicken disables institutions temporarily during aggregator maintenance, and setup will keep failing with OL-295-A until the bank is re-enabled — no local fix will help in that window.
Account Setup Won't Finish?
We can tell within minutes whether the failure is on your machine or at the bank, and clear the broken setup record either way.
