How to Fix Quicken Error OL-304-A (Bank Connection Blocked)

OL-304-A appears when your bank rejects Quicken's connection request — usually because a security check is pending on the bank's website or the stored credentials no longer match.

Why OL-304-A Happens

  • Unaccepted terms, MFA challenge, or new-device prompt on the bank site
  • Stored password changed after you last updated it in Quicken
  • Institution profile in Quicken is outdated
  • Bank changed its Direct Connect endpoint
1

Log in to your bank's website first

Sign in through your browser and clear any security prompts, MFA challenges, or 'accept new terms' pages. Quicken can't answer these and OL-304-A is often the bank refusing until they're cleared.

2

Update Quicken

Open Help → Check for Updates and install any pending release. An outdated institution profile is the second most common cause of OL-304-A.

3

Refresh the Financial Institution List

Go to Tools → Online Center → drop-down icon → Contact Info → Update / Refresh. This pulls the latest bank profile from Quicken servers.

4

Deactivate and reactivate online services

For every account at that bank, open Edit → Online Services → Deactivate. Then File → Backup, close and reopen Quicken, and re-add through Set Up Now → Link to existing.

5

Reset stored bank credentials

Open Tools → Password Vault → Add or Edit Passwords, remove the entry for this bank, then re-enter it fresh on the next One Step Update.

Still Blocked?

If OL-304-A won't clear after these steps, a technician can rebuild the online connection and confirm whether the bank has migrated its Direct Connect service.
