How to Fix Quicken Error OL-362-A (Direct Connect Refused)

OL-362-A is a Direct Connect rejection: your bank received Quicken's request and declined it, usually because the service isn't enabled, the PIN is wrong, or the stored server settings are stale.

Why OL-362-A Happens

  • Direct Connect not enabled (or lapsed) on your bank account
  • Direct Connect PIN entered instead of, or confused with, the web password
  • Outdated bank branding/server settings inside Quicken
  • Damaged account records in the Quicken data file
  • Bank maintenance window or server outage
1

Confirm Direct Connect is still enabled at your bank

Many banks require you to opt in to Direct Connect (sometimes for a monthly fee) and will refuse the request otherwise. Call your bank and ask them to confirm Direct Connect for Quicken is active on your account.

2

Check your Direct Connect PIN, not your web password

Direct Connect often uses a separate PIN issued by the bank. Open Tools → Password Vault, remove the stored entry, and re-enter the Direct Connect PIN exactly as the bank provided it.

3

Update Quicken and refresh the branding files

Install pending updates via Help → Check for Updates, then open Tools → Online Center, hold Ctrl+Shift and click Contact Info → Refresh to pull the bank's current server settings.

4

Validate and super-validate the data file

Go to File → File Operations → Validate & Repair, tick 'Validate file'. If OL-362-A persists, hold Ctrl+Shift while opening File Operations and choose Super Validate. Back up first.

5

Deactivate, then relink each account

For every account at that bank choose Edit → Online Services → Deactivate. Restart Quicken and reconnect with Set Up Now, choosing Link to existing account so history stays intact.

OL-362-A vs OL-301-A and OL-304-A

All three are Direct Connect failures, but they fail at different points: OL-301-A usually means Quicken never reached the bank, OL-304-A means the bank blocked the request pending a security step, and OL-362-A means the bank answered and explicitly refused. That's why OL-362-A almost always ends with a call to the bank about Direct Connect entitlement.

Still Refused?

If OL-362-A survives a full deactivate-and-relink, a technician can validate the file, verify the bank's Direct Connect profile, and rebuild the connection with you on the line.
