Why am I not receiving the Quicken password reset email?

Reset emails almost always get filtered into spam or promotions folders. Check every folder, then whitelist quicken.com and try again. If you still don't receive it, the email on file may not be your current one.

Is Quicken ID password the same as my data file password?

No. The Quicken ID password signs you into Quicken as a subscription user. The data file password (if you set one) protects the .QDF file itself and is stored locally — resetting the Quicken ID does not reset the file password.

Can I recover a lost Quicken data file password?

Quicken does not include a self-service reset for data-file passwords by design. A technician can attempt a recovery through Quicken's supported process, but you must own the file and the subscription.

The reset link says 'expired' — what now?

Reset links are single-use and expire in about an hour. Request a fresh one and click it from the same browser you'll use to sign in.

Quicken ID vs Data File Password

Before you try to reset anything, figure out which password is blocking you:

Quicken ID — email + password that unlocks your subscription (resettable online)
Data File Password — protects the .QDF file itself (stored locally, no online reset)
Vault Password — protects saved bank credentials inside Quicken (resettable inside the app)

Reset Your Quicken ID Password

Go to the Quicken sign-in page and click Forgot your password?
Enter the email address on your Quicken subscription
Open the reset email and click the link within an hour
Choose a new password, then sign back into Quicken

Not Getting the Reset Email

Check Spam, Promotions, and All Mail folders
Search for quicken.com — the sender is noreply@quicken.com
Whitelist quicken.com in your email filters, then request a new reset
Confirm the email on file is one you still access (a common blocker after switching ISPs)

Reset Link Says 'Expired' or 'Invalid'

Reset links expire in about an hour and are single-use. Request a fresh one and open it in the same browser you'll sign in with — cross-device clicks sometimes invalidate the token.

Sign-In Still Fails After a Reset

Clear browser cache, or try an incognito window
Inside Quicken, go to Edit → Preferences → Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts → Sign in as a different user and re-authenticate
Confirm your subscription is active — an expired sub returns a login error that looks like a bad password
